Hampton, VA Wrongful Death Attorney Report : $5 Million Wrongful Death Lawsuits Are Brought Against Soldier Accused in I-64 Wrong Way Crash
Families of two Christopher Newport University students who were killed last year by a wrong way driver have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the man charged with their deaths in Hampton, a Fort Eustis soldier.
The Daily Press reported the families of the students who were aged 19 and 17, filed separate $5 million wrongful death lawsuits against Jesse Evans Jr. 34, over the accident on I-64 in Hampton. The Fort Eustis soldier is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, three counts of maiming by DUI and having two DUIs within five years.

The lawsuits filed in Hampton Circuit Court, allege that “the defendant did negligently, recklessly and carelessly drive his vehicle in the wrong direction on Interstate 64.” A jury trial is requested by injury lawyers representing the families.

Evans, was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe the wrong way on I-64 near the Harpersville Road overpass when he hit the Ford Taurus the students were traveling in, according to police. Three others who were traveling with the girls were injured but survived.
The driver and a front seat passenger in the Taurus have filed personal injury lawsuits against Evans insurance policy, for $1 million and $700,000, the Daily Press reported.
