Good Samaritan is Hit by a Van and Killed in Newport News, VA
When we break down on dangerous highways such as Bland Boulevard in Newport News it can be a frightening experience. It can be a Godsend when a passer-by stops to help.
Tragically, a Good Samaritan who helped when he saw a disabled vehicle on the Bland Boulevard overpass near Jefferson Avenue, was killed in an accident.
Newport News police said the 22-year-old, from Yorktown was hit by a van that crashed into the disabled vehicle around 8.10 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Two women and three juveniles were inside a disabled vehicle on the overpass, and a male pedestrian was in the roadway assisting them when a van crashed into the vehicle,” reported WAVY.com
Newport News police spokeswoman Holly McPherson said the pedestrian and two women were transported to a local hospital. The pedestrian was pronounced dead.
My thoughts as a Newport News car accident injury lawyer are with his family. He did a good deed in helping a family in need.
Sadly all too often drivers fail to look out for broken down vehicles. Last year a woman from Newport News was hit and killed by a big rig on I-664 in Chesapeake after breaking down.
Charges had not been brought in the wake of the latest tragedy in Newport News as of Thursday morning. If you lose a loved one due to the fault of another driver, you may have a good case to bring a wrongful death lawsuit.
