Five Are Injured in Accident Involving a Farm Tractor in Bedford County, VA
In rural parts of Virginia farm vehicles can cause a serious hazard on the roads. Typically they travel at considerably lower speeds than other traffic and they often pull long trailers or heavy machinery.
Recently a farm tractor was involved in an accident that left five people injured in Bedford County, VA.
ABC 13 reported five people were hurt in a wreck involving a farm vehicle and a car on 460 westbound in Bedford County on June 29, 2013, according to the Forest Volunteer Fire Department.
At one point the accident led to the closure 460 near the accident scene. It’s not clear from reports how seriously injured the people involved in this accident were. Reports did not make it clear which vehicle was at fault.
When accidents involving farm vehicles occur, they are often serious. A study in North Carolina revealed accidents involving farm vehicles are 2.5 times more likely to result in death.
In the Hampton Roads area where I work as a personal injury area, I see a number of crashes involving farm vehicles, in particular in rural areas such as Suffolk, York County and north Eastern North Carolina.
In some cases the drivers of tractors fail to obey the rules of the highway or are unfamiliar with situations in which they come into contact with other road users who may be traveling at faster speeds.
