Eastern Shore Serious Injury Lawyer Report : Virginia Man is Badly Burned in Oil Tank Explosion on Eastern Shore of Maryland
Industrial accidents can have horrific consequences for those involved. This was graphically illustrated in an accident on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in which a Virginia man suffered severe burns.
An AP report in the Virginian-Pilot said the man was badly burned when an oil tank he was using a cutting torch to work on exploded in Somerset County.
The accident occurred at about 1 p.m. on October 20, 2012 in Marion Station. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the 21-year-old man from Tasley, Virginia was using an acetylene torch to cut into an oil tank once used to store gasoline. The tank exploded and set fire to a nearby building.
The man was working with his father. WBOC-TV reported the younger man was flown to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Burn Unit in Baltimore with second-and-third degree burns to more than 90 percent of his body.
His father was also taken to Bayview Medical Center.
My thoughts as an experienced Eastern Shore injury lawyer are with this young man and his father.
Burns are among the most terrible of injuries that can occur as a result of an accident. See our Virginia Beach injury lawyers’ guide to burns.
If an accident takes place on a dangerous premises or an employee is hurt, a company can be held liable. Recently we reported on the death of a man who was trapped under a crane at an Isle of Wight paper mill site.
