Eastern Shore Bus Accident Injury Lawyer Report – Tour Bus Overturns in Accomack County
Another tour bus accident has occurred – this time closer to urban Hampton Roads, on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
As experienced Virginia (VA) bus accident injury attorneys we are pleased nobody was injured in this crash, even though a tour bus loaded with high school children overturned.
Virginia state police said in a press release on June 7, 2012, at about 8:30 a.m. hours, the Accomack County Emergency Operations Center contacted the Virginia State Police Division Five Communications Center to report an overturned tour bus in Accomack County.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Lankford Highway and Horntown Road in the New Church area. Both Northbound lanes of Route 13 were closed because of the accident and VDOT assisted in detouring traffic around the scene, said state police spokeswoman Michelle Anaya.
The tour bus, driven by Larry Pushlar of New York, had about 35 students on board and four chaperons, as well as the driver.
The bus was traveling southbound on Route 13 when the driver drifted off the road way into a grassy median striking a culvert, causing the bus to overturn, Anaya said.
No injuries were reported in the single vehicle accident. The driver was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control.
Tour buses have been in the headlines in recent weeks for all of the wrong reasons.
Investigators found driver fatigue was to blame for a tour bus crash that killed 15 last year in New York City.
And a massive federal crackdown on East Coast low cost tour bus operators took place last week that saw 26 bus companies closed down including some that have picked up passengers from Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
As Norfolk, VA accident injury lawyers we are relieved there were no injuries in this crash.
