Driver is Charged With Reckless Driving After Girl, 12 is Hit Near Bus Stop in Virginia Beach
When cars are involved in crashes innocent bystanders can sometimes be caught up in the crashes and injured.
This was the case recently in Virginia Beach when a 12-year-old girl was caught up in the middle of a car accident while she was walking to the bus stop.
The girl had crossed Aragona Boulevard from Kellam Road when she was knocked into a yard and injured, NewsChannel 3 reported. The channel reported on how a Ford Explorer went through a stop sign and struck a Toyota Tacoma, pushing the girl to the ground.
The girl’s father said his daughter’s injuries could have been even more serious had the Explorer not struck another car first. He suggested the road should have a crosswalk or at least a sign pointing to the presence of a bus stop.
Police said the driver of the Ford Explorer was later charged with reckless driving.
Accidents at bus stops are thankfully rare. But there are plenty of precedents for this accident in Virginia Beach. Last year a woman who hit and injured a family at a bus stop in Virginia Beach was sentenced to 12 years in jail. She was driving under the influence of cocaine at the time, a court heard.
