Cyclist Lyalles Downey Westman is Killed by a Hit-and-Run Driver in Norfolk
Just days after a pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Newport News, a bicyclist has died in Norfolk after he was hit by two drivers that left the scene in the Ocean View area of Norfolk.
Cyclist Lyalles Downey Westman, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on June 19, 2013 at about 9:30 p.m. at East Ocean View Avenue and Chesapeake Street, according to Norfolk police
The Virginian-Pilot reported on how police were looking for two vehicles that may have been involved in this tragic accident a small, red sedan with a large amount of front-end damage and a mini-van taxi.
My thoughts as an experienced Norfolk injury lawyer are with the family of Mr. Westman. Cyclists are vulnerable and are killed and injured every year on the streets of cities such as Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA.
It’s bad enough to lose a loved one, worse still when the drivers who are responsible flee the scene.
Just days ago, I reported on the death of pedestrian Marcella Yvette Spain on Warwick Boulevard in Newport News at the hands of a hit and run driver.
A pickup driver was later arrested. Hit and runs are not just criminal offenses. Often the families of those who have tragically lost their lives have grounds to bring a wrongful death lawsuit.
If you have lost a loved one in an accident you should call a Norfolk, VA wrongful death lawyer.
