Craig County in Virginia Mourns Loss of Three Young Women in a Car Crash
Scenes of friends and family putting flowers at the location of an accident that claimed the lives of young people, are all too familiar in Virginia.
Even so, the deaths of three young women in a single vehicle crash in Craig County near Roanoke, have sent shockwaves around a tight knit community.
Soon after three young women were killed in a car crash, visitors were putting flowers down at the scene, creating a makeshift memorial on the side of the road, local media reported.
ABC13 reported five female passengers were travelling in an Isuzu Rodeo that smashed into a tree around 11:30p.m. Sunday on Route 311 close to New Castle, the Virginia State Police said.
Police said an 18-year-old driver tried to pass a car that was turning left. She lost control of the SUV. The driver and Carleigh Taylor, 22, died at the scene. A 19-year-old passenger died later at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The accident left two other passengers – aged 19 and 16 – injured. They were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
This is a tragic accident and my thoughts are with the families of these young women who lost their lives far too soon. The accident illustrates how one simple mistake can have terrible consequences on the highway.
All of those in the SUV were former and current students at Craig County High School.
In single vehicle accidents, passengers who are injured often have grounds to make an injury claim against the driver’s insurance policy while family members of those who die are often entitled to bring a wrongful death claim.
