Court Awards $150,000 After Norfolk Mother Backed Car into Father over Child’s Haircut Argument
When estranged partners have a child in common, it can be a recipe for tempers to get out of control leading them to fall foul of the civil law as well as the criminal law.
This was certainly the case when a child visitation exchange between a mother and a father went badly awry in Norfolk, VA., leading to the father sustaining a shoulder injury after the mother backed her car into him, Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported.
The case ended up in a $150,000 verdict to the father at Norfolk Circuit Court.
It started with an altercation over a haircut. The father claimed the mother was angry that he had cut the hair of one of the children during a weekend visit.
The plaintiff testified that the mother called him a “retard,” according to Virginia Lawyers Weekly.
His lawyers gave evidence that as he leaned in the open passenger door of a car to comfort a 5-year-old. The mother backed the car up, bending the door and injuring the father’s shoulder.
The plaintiff was represented by Chesapeake attorney Eric Plumlee. It’s not clear from the report if criminal charges were brought in this case.
As a Norfolk auto injury accident attorney, most of the cases I deal with involve injuries caused by accidents, recklessness or drunk or distracted driving. But I also see a number of cases of deliberate harm.
Earlier this year I reported on a road rage accident that led to the death of another driver in Richmond, VA.
