The Boys & Girls Club plays a vital part in the lives of thousands of kids in Hampton Roads in keeping them off the streets after school.
At Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers we want to give back to the community and we are pleased to be able to support this great organization by making a donation to the Youth of the Year Banquet on March 10 at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Norfolk.
I made this video with with Jamilah Le Cruise, a Norfolk-based attorney, who is a corporate board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia.
She said the program provides an after school resource “every day Monday to Friday between 3pm and 8pm.There are 11 programs that cater for 3,000 kids.”
“As soon as they get off the school bus until when their parents pick them up. That’s what they are doing,” she said.
The event on March 10 is the seventh Youth of the Year Dinner. Six kids are competing for scholarships.
The kids compete for the scholarship and give various speeches. At the end of the year, one of them is crowned youth of the year for boys and girls club of South East Virginia,” Jamilah said.
Every year the Boys and Girls Club seeks to raise $50,000. Cox Communications is the main sponsor of the dinner.
Jamilah also presented us with a painting made by one of the students “They all said those are the lawyers on the bus, so one of the students donated their art work,” she said.
