Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers was a sponsor of Norfolk State University’s recent 12th Annual Women’s Empowerment Conference in Virginia Beach.
It was the second year in a row that Cooper Hurley has sponsored the event. This year it was held on Sept. 26 at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. This year’s theme was “Fitting It All Together: Career, Relationships and Health.”
The keynote speaker at the event was internationally acclaimed track and field Paralympian April Holmes.
April Holmes was a 400m specialist in her high school and a collegiate All-American at Norfolk State University when an accident in 2001 changed her life forever. She was the last person boarding a train running late to New York City when the driver closed the doors on her, causing a tragic accident in which her left leg had to be amputated below the knee. As he lay in her hospital bed a surgeon told her about the Paralympic Games. She broke three Paralympic records in Athens and won a gold medal in Beijing.
As well as being a sponsor of the event Cooper Hurley provided bags with promotional items to attendees.
Cooper Hurley sponsors many events in the Hampton Roads community. In August, the firm sponsored Sacred heart Church’s fifth “Play Fore the Parishes” golf tournament which raises funds for a host of good causes including the Union Mission, Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Hospital for King’s Daughters.
Cooper Hurley is again sponsoring the BOO-Yah! 5 K for charity in Port Norfolk in Portsmouth on October 11. Call Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers at 757.455.0077 for a free consultation or see CooperHurley.com.
