Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers Makes a Donation to the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia
The Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia performs a vital role in helping the most vulnerable members of society. Without the assistance of this non-profit, many Virginians would go unrepresented in challenging injustice and fighting for their basic rights.
Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is a consistent supporter of this great organization. We were happy to make a recent donation to LASEVA.
Cooper Hurley partner Jim Hurley and attorney Kevin Briggs attended the Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association fundraiser for the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia on Sept. 20.
Kevin Briggs said it was an honor to attend the fundraiser for this vital non-profit law firm. He pointed out both Jim Hurley and fellow founding partner John Cooper have links to LASEVA.
“I am a former Legal Aid attorney myself. What most may not know is that Jim Hurley also started his career as a Legal Aid attorney and that a close relative of John Cooper actually sat on the original Board of Directors for the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia when it was founded in 1966.” Briggs said.
What Is the Legal Aid Society?
The Legal Aid Society points out on its website its mission is to “promote the equal application of justice and remove impediments to fairness for the low-income and vulnerable families of eastern Virginia.”
Its attorneys strive to meet the legal needs of its low-income clients and to “challenge systemic injustice and the root causes of poverty and inequality.”
It represents people involved in legal matters including landlord/tenant disputes, domestic violence, public benefits, family law, consumer law, estate planning, education, collections, and other civil rights and discrimination matters.
“The Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia and their mission to promote the equal application of justice and remove impediments to fairness for the low-income and vulnerable families of the Hampton Roads Community will be always an important cause to me and has always been an important cause to Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers,” Briggs said.
“The staff and attorneys at LASEVA truly care about the community they serve, fight vigorously to promote justice under the law, and compassionately advocate for their clients. I am proud to call the tremendous staff and attorneys of the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia my friends and thank Mr. Hurley and Mr. Cooper for their unwavering commitment to this outstanding organization,” he added.
Kevin Briggs points out he learned many lessons during his days working for LASEVA and met amazing people. “It ignited a flame in me for serving others, advocating for those who most need help and opened my eyes to the absolute need for competent attorneys to advocate for our most vulnerable community members. The mentorship of the amazing attorneys at LASEVA helped me become the lawyer I am today,” he said.
Briggs was happy to find the approach of the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia mirrored at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers in its service to others, the vigorous representation of clients and commitment to justice. “I found all three at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers,” he said.
“I am proud to be an attorney here at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers, fighting for those injured and in need of representation and I thank them for their unwavering support to LASEVA and their fight against the injustices of poverty,” Briggs said.
