Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers Donates Coats to STEM Academy in Norfolk

team at community event during Christmas

It is the holiday season, and temperatures are falling. Although the holidays are meant to be a time of joy, many young people in Norfolk go without the basics, such as a warm coat. Therefore, Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers recently stepped in to donate about 30 warm winter coats to the students at Southside STEM Academy at Campostella in Norfolk.

Southside STEM Academy at Campostella performs a great role in the Norfolk community. Its programs incorporate “problem and project-based learning” with a special emphasis on engineering. The Southside STEM Academy at Campostella aims to boost early student value and awareness in the important areas of Science, Technology, Pre-Engineering, and Mathematics while giving its students the skills needed to meet the challenges of the current workforce.

How We Made a Difference in Our Community

Our law firm decided to help out after Roshawnda M. Johnson, the Family Engagement Specialist at Southside, mentioned the need for warm coats on a social media post. Attorney Griff O’Hanlon visited Southside STEM Academy earlier this month with Chief Marketing Officer Cassidy Lewis, and Ty Bryant from the Norfolk-based personal injury law firm.

“We’re so happy to be here today. It’s the Christmas season, and we always feel it’s our obligation to be part of our community and give back to our community whenever we can. We are glad to be here today giving back to some very hardworking, worthy kids,” Griff O’Hanlon said.

Johnson was pleased to receive the coats from the Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers team. “We’d just like to give a special thank you to you and your law firm for coming out here to Southside. Our students are so happy and excited about the presents you have brought, and they’ve been working so hard this school year here at the Academy of Excellence,” she said.

Other Ways We Have Helped Our Community

Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers has invested in several communities around Norfolk and the rest of Northern Virginia, and we make regular donations to help people and organizations in need.

Last month, we stepped in with a donation when a Virginia Beach youth football team equipment shed was ransacked by intruders as they raised money to play in the national league championships. The players aged 7 to 11 worked hard all season to make it to the championships. We gave a $1,400 donation to buy important equipment. Fortunately, the VB Cooke Redskins got to compete in the American Youth Football National Championship.

In 2018, we donated $1,000 to the Virginia Beach-based non-profit Blankets for the Homeless. It’s traumatic to be homeless or to lack a warm coat or shoes over the holidays when temperatures fall and people are at home celebrating with their families.

Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers also supported the charity set up by Mariah Smith in our Facebook ‘likes’ campaign three years ago. Our law firm also has sponsored the Union Mission homeless shelter in Norfolk.

We champion the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore by taking part in the annual Legal Food Frenzy. The event has raised enough money to purchase more than 15.6 million pounds of food for needy Virginians.

Our personal injury lawyers have strong roots in the Tidewater area and are dedicated to advocating and enriching the community. Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers’ commentary engagement activities include support for events by the Chef Sholom Temple in Norfolk, Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads, and Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia.

Every year, our firm supports young people who are going to colleges and universities via our Distracted Driving Awareness Scholarships. We hope you have a great holiday season. Please contact our team if you need our help.
