VSP: DUI suspect crashed into trooper
The Virginia State Police trooper was injured in the crash. State police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said he was parked in a properly marked work zone with his lights on to alert drivers to the road work.
Just before 1:30 a.m. on September 12, 2012, the woman crashed her Jeep head-on into the trooper’s cruiser on the Route 13 bridge, according to police.
The officer was taken to Sentara Norfolk General for treatment of non-life threatening injuries while the woman was taken into custody and charged with DUI maiming.
As experienced Chesapeake DUI accident injury attorneys, we see far too many accidents caused by alcohol and drugs.
According to the Virginia Highway Safety Office, there were 8,221 drunk driving related car accidents in the Commonwealth in 2010. Sadly, 247 of these were fatal auto accidents.
If you have been hit and injured by a drunk driver you have a strong case to make a claim for damages. In some cases the courts will award punitive damages, which is additional compensation.
These are usually cases in which a drunk driver has refused to take a BAC test, or if they had a BAC of .15% or above.
