Cancer Survivor Sally Ann Okuly is Killed on a Crosswalk in Woodbridge, Virginia
Every year there are scores of accidents involving pedestrians in Hampton Roads and Virginia.
Few of them make national headlines but the sad circumstances of the death of Sally Ann Okuly, meant the pedestrian accident in Woodbridge, Virginia, was featured in media across the world.
She was a 59-year-old cancer survivor who was taking her first walk in six months after recovering from a motorcycle accident. It proved to be her last. As she crossed the street to a Wawa gas station in Woodbridge, VA, on a crosswalk, she was struck by a 24-year-old driver. She died the next day at a local hospital.
“She was the most giving person ever,” her husband Bill Okuly told the Huffington Post.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler that hit Sally Ann Okuly, was later charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian by Prince William County Police. The accident report said the pedestrian was crossing Opiz Boulevard at the intersection with Montgomery Avenue, when she was hit by a driver making a turn.
My condolences go to the family of Sally Ann Okuly at this tragic time. This brave woman survived cancer and a motorcycle accident, only to lose her life at the hands of driver later charged with reckless driving.
